Dem Critz holds Murtha's Pa. seat

In a sharp blow to national Republicans who had invested millions of dollars in the contest, Democrat Mark Critz defeated Republican Tim Burns in the race for the Western Pennsylvania House seat formerly held by the late Rep. John Murtha.

Critz, a former Murtha staffer, led Burns, a businessman, 53 percent to 46 percent, with 70 percent of the precincts reporting. Critz now will serve the remainder of Murtha's term through the end of the year.

But the Critz-Burns battle will continue on. They'll face each other again in November.

Thanks to Pennsylvania election law, both men also were on their respective party primary ballots Tuesday for the general election this fall.

Both won their primaries, so a Critz-Burns rematch is already in the offing.
