Murtha's widow endorses Critz to replace longtime representative

Joyce Murtha, the widow of U.S. Rep. John Murtha, has endorsed the former director of Murtha's district office in the race to replace him.

Mark Critz, who entered the race Monday after Joyce Murtha decided not to run, is "the most qualified and knowledgeable candidate in the field," Joyce Murtha said in a statement released by Critz.

Critz will face fellow Democrats Ryan Bucchianeri, Cambria County Controller Ed Cernic Jr., former state Treasurer Barbara Hafer, Ron Mackell Jr., and former Lt. Gov. Mark Singel. Republicans in the race include Johnstown-area businessman Tim Burns and retired Army officer William Russell. The election is scheduled May 18.
