As trail project ends, next phase begins

PennDOT District 11 Executive Dan Cessna said he's been to many bridge and road dedications before and has never seen a crowd as large as the one gathered at the Milton L. Lebowitz Memorial Bridge dedication in White Oak.

Friends, colleagues and family spoke of the late White Oak Mayor Milton L. Lebowitz's generosity, family values, popularity and sense of humor at a Friday dedication ceremony.

The 18-foot bridge named in Lebowitz's honor leads up to White Oak Park off Route 48 over Jack's Run.

"My children and I are honored that Milton has a permanent tribute in a community he loved," said Lebowitz's widow Joyce. "Naming this bridge after Milton, next to a park he loved, will help his memory live forever."

Lebowitz started out on the White Oak Recreation Board in the early 1970s, then served on borough council for eight years before becoming mayor in 1998. He was mayor until his death in 2003. The Korean War vete...
