JOHNSTOWN — The fifth annual Veterans Community Response Symposium brought more than 100 medical professionals, rehabilitation specialists, community leaders and veterans to the Hiram G. Andrews Center on Wednesday.
They were there to share and learn about military and civilian programs impacting returning soldiers and their ability to reintegrate with the community.
“We're here to outline their needs and outline a response for them and their families,” said Tom Caulfield, executive director of Veterans Leadership Program/Veterans Community Initiatives (VLP/VCI).
The day-long program opened with a video tribute to the late U.S. Rep. John Murtha.
Former Chief of Staff John Hugya and Murtha's successor and former district director U.S. Rep. Mark Critz, D-Johnstown, paused at times to collect themselves during their remarks.
